6 TV Anchors Who Graced The Screen Back Then and Where They Are Now

They graced the TV screens in the early 2000s, a time when channels were few and the choices limited. Most grew to love and admire them with some of the jingles used in their time still fresh in minds.

Some of these TV queens got greater opportunities with International media houses. Others, however, decided to lead a life out of the limelight.

Here is the whereabouts of a few of them.



1.) Beatrice Marshall

The news anchor worked at KTN for eight years, bringing Prime Time news to our living rooms and interviewing many renowned leaders.

She also hosted a show, Agenda 5 and Diplomatic Perspective while at the same time working as the Deputy Managing Editor at the station. She had joined KTN after working for Kenya's national broadcaster, KBC in the '90s.

Beatrice is now an anchor at China Global TV Network (CGTN), formerly known as CCTV, where she hosts a program called Talk Africa. In this program, Marshall talks to leaders and personalities on the African continent.

She holds a Masters degree in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester.

2.) Sophie Ikenye

Just like Marshall, Sophie started her media career at KBC as an intern, before she moved to NTV where she anchored news until her departure in 2009.

In an interview with a local publication, Sophie stated that she had always wanted to become a news anchor.

“I quite liked broadcasting when I was growing up. I even practiced being a TV presenter in front of the mirror with a spoon as a microphone!” she disclosed.

Sophie is now a presenter at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London, where she hosts a programme called Focus in Africa

"On Focus on Africa, we are passionate about telling the real African stories and finding different ways to tell them on all platforms,” Sophie told a local publication.

3.)  Regina-Re

Her full name is Regina Wambui Gitau but was known to many as Regina-Re. She hosted the show 'Who's Smarter Now' which aired on KTN, Sunday nights.

The show entailed Regina asking questions to a contestant, who was then expected to answer in 60 minutes. The winner would later walk away with a reward.

Regina, who had a wide following during the time, has kept off the screens for quite some time and has focused on full-time business as a Personal Growth & Development Trainer, Creative & Performing Artist.

She has a background in Psychology and Mass Communications.

4.) Winnie Mukami

She gained fame in 2003 when NTV was launched after she became a news anchor in the station. However, she had started her career journey at KBC as a TV and radio current affairs presenter and producer two years before.

However, in 2010, she left the station and founded her own public relations consultancy known as Winners Frontiers International Limited, which she still runs.

5.) Catherine Kasavuli

Her journey in the media industry began in 1980 as a radio continuity announcer and later joined TV in 1985. The TV queen has over 30 years of experience in the industry.

The gifted presenter warmed the hearts of many who watched her bulletin's throughout her career.

She received numerous awards in industry, including an accolade, 'The Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya' from former President Mwai Kibaki.

After she retired from Citizen TV, the veteran journalist founded Kasavuli Media Group Limited. 

6.) Anne Ngugi

The celebrated news anchor graced the TV screens with her Swahili diction when she launched her career at KTN.

After working for some time on the station, Anne left for K24 where she was fired while only five months pregnant and with twins. She, however, made a comeback on the screens but on the international broadcaster, BBC.

Announcing the good news to her followers on the social media page, Anne disclosed that she would be the host of the Dira Ya Dunia programme on BBC Swahili (Nairobi Bureau).

“Started New job at BBC Swahili," she shared.
