Chinese Man in Court After Stealing Shoes Worth Ksh3M

A Chinese national was on Friday charged in a Nairobi court of law after stealing shoes.

According to Daily Nation, the man, Li Bingpeng, stole the shoes, which were valued at Ksh3 million belonging to Peter Githinji Macharia, from the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi.

He committed the offence on December 8, 2018, with the help of accomplices.

The court was told that the accused had earlier conspired to defraud Macharia and another person, Stephen Jimmy Mwangangi, of Ksh1,483,100, on the pretense that he would give them clearance documents for the shoes.

Appearing before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate, Bingpeng denied the charges and was subsequently released on a Ksh 800,000 cash bail.

The trial is set to begin on August 28, 2019.

In January this year, another Chinese man was arraigned in a Kisii court after he was accused of stealing soil valued at Ksh3.7 million.

The man, Zhang Shaowei, manager of China International Cooperation Company Limited, reportedly stole the soil in Wanjare, Kisii County between July 6, 2018, to August 20, 2018, in a parcel of land registered to Enock Onchangwa.

Shaowei was also charged with unlawful damage of Onchangwa’s property and making two false lease agreements for the land in question.
