CS Narrates How He Mistook DCI Kinoti's SMS for Kamiti Fraudsters

Defending himself against assassination allegations on DP William Ruto, Trade CS Peter Munya on Saturday came out to state that the claims were part of a political witchhunt.

Addressing a gathering in Muthara, Tigania East, Meru, Munya revealed that he was at first skeptical about the summons by DCI boss George Kinoti.

Kinoti had sent the summons to the cabinet secretaries via SMS and Munya explained that he first thought the message was from "pranksters at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison", The Nation reported.

He further defended himself stating that he was not a murderer and that the meetings were geared towards the development agenda in the region.

"I came home to defend myself because you might think I have become a murderer. I am here to assure you that I have not changed. I cannot be found in a gathering of murderers. As a Njuri Ncheke elder, I know how to respect the sanctity of life.

"This is all made up. It is a false witness against me, just like Jezebel did to Naboth because she wanted to grab his vineyard. This is a plot against us but God is with us. This is a political plot," he stated.

He added that the meetings were addressing concerns by legislators in the region over slow delivery of projects.

Munya further stated that the other meetings had taken place in different venues including Weston Hotel.

"I first held a meeting with MPs and then called all ministers, parastatal heads and other government officials, all totalling 45. We had met four times before the alleged assassination plot emerged," he was quoted by Nation.

The Trade CS stated that they would not record statements until a formal complaint is filed.

"We insist that we will meet again and again, not only at Hotel La Mada but elsewhere in Kenya because we have a right as Kenyans. We have not plotted to kill anyone but if he records a statement, we will go back to respond," he affirmed.
