Truth About Letter Introducing Caning of University Students

Over the weekend, a letter made rounds on social media sites alleging the introduction of caning of students at KCA University.

In the memo purported to have originated from the University administration, students would be subjected to the punishment from the May-August 2019 trimester.

"Students who fail to adhere to the rules and guidelines of the institution will be expected to report to the committee immediately where he will receive his punishment not less than 15 strokes.

"Please note that students who abscond from following this rule will be expelled from the university with immediate effect," the memo read in part.

Kenyans.co.ke has established that the memo sent out was falsified with the University management terming it as fake.

Speaking to this writer on the phone, a university representative stated that the letter did not originate from the institution's management.

"It is malicious and we are currently carrying out investigations to establish the source of the letter," the representative conveyed.

The university's student leader Isaac Wambua also released a statement confirming the same.

"I wish to inform all students, parents and the public that the said information is false and made to tarnish the reputation of KCA University.

"We sincerely apologise to our students for such information as we promise to deal with the culprits legally for ruining our good image," Wambua stated.

KCA University also released an official statement on the same.
