Nic Hailey’s Last Stern Warning to Kenyan Politicians

On Wednesday, outgoing British High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey, reiterated UK’s fight on corruption by hitting hard on Kenyans, more so, politicians with corruption cases.

He was speaking in his last meeting with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as he looked set to conclude his farewell tour.

According to Nation, the diplomat stated that the UK will bar Kenyans with graft cases from travelling to Britain.

UK won't do business with them. We would like to see those who receive bribes in Kenya convicted.

The people who have been charged need to step aside from their offices. I wonder why they are let to go back to their offices to delete the recordings, shred evidence and intimidate their staff. You will never build a case on such a basis," Hailey declared.

On Tuesday, he pointed out the close ties between the East African nation and the UK, adding that he had grown to be greatly fond of the country during his four-year term.

"It has been a great privilege and pleasure. The relationship between the UK and Kenya makes us each safer and more prosperous and allows us to contribute together to prosperity and security in the wider world.

I'll miss this beautiful place," he tweeted following a visit with Cabinet Secretary Foreign Affairs, Monica Juma.

ODM Party leader, Raila Odinga, had earlier on hosted the UK envoy, going on to reveal that they had exchanged views on political developments, as well as the ongoing war on corruption.

Hailey's term is set to come to an end in September 2019, and various leaders took their time to laud his performance.
