Popular Business Mogul Pens Inspiring Message to Job Seekers

Mount Kenya University Chairman, Simon Gicharu, gave an inspiring message to job seekers, as well as an account of how he became successful in his businesses, on Monday morning.

The MKU chairman divulged that networks were important and acted as huge eye-openers in making it in various careers.

"In life, you must make things happen. Network. Wear a smile, a suit and confidence. The fear of being told "NO" shouldn't cripple you. If you encounter a wall, climb over, break through or go around it," he noted.

Gicharu went ahead and narrated that he made a bold move when visited the Commerce and Industry Minister, Kirugi M'mukindia, in 1993, when he wanted to launch his company.

"I had founded called 'Kenya Youth Finance & Entrepreneurship Association'. In those days, some ministers in the Moi government were demigods, so I was a bit apprehensive," he noted on his Twitter page.

The MKU chairman stated that at the age of 29, the minister caught him by surprise when he agreed to launch his organisation.

"I told myself that the only negative reply I could get was a "NO", and so I trudged on. I was pleasantly surprised when the minister agreed to be the guest of honour," he remarked.

Gicharu owns a couple of businesses including the newly launched media house, Royal FM in Rwanda TV 47 in Kenya. is also the Chairman of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.

He made these sentiments a day after Citizen TV aired a story on Kelvin Ochieng, a first-class graduate from the University of Nairobi (UON), who has been both jobless and homeless.

Kelvin, a former Maranda High School student and an index one during his exam year, also scored an A in KCSE and studied Actuarial Science at UON

“I was frustrated and went to live in the streets for a year after failing to land a job. It's better living in Mathare than lying in the streets. Back home, they all believed that I would be the saviour,” Kelvin stated.
