Governor Rejects Ksh19M Luxurious Vehicle

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has left his senior staff in confusion after rejecting a Ksh19 million top-of-the-range vehicle bought for him.

The Toyota Land Cruiser V8 had been driven to the office of the governor for his use, but he declined it until “it was officially registered”.

Nyong’o further informed them that he was comfortable using his current car.

According to a report by The Standard, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were investigating how the car was procured.

They further revealed that a senior officer at the EACC office in Kisumu divulged they had written to the County Secretary, Olango Onudi, seeking purchase documents for the car.

This development left the individuals at a limbo as it was reported that the dealer had declined to take the car back.

Nyong’o’s handlers wanted him to use the car last week for a test drive but he refused,” claimed a senior officer who sought anonymity.

Kisumu Finance Executive, Nerry Achar, claimed that the governor had only asked why the car had not been registered.

The car had no registration number plate. It only had a foreign registration, so we are now processing its registration,’’ Achar stated.

Area Senator, Fred Outa, also questioned the rationale of spending millions of shillings just to buy one car at the expense of other development priorities.
