DP Ruto Charms Mourners With Laboso's Dressing Code Story

On Thursday, Deputy President, William Ruto, charmed mourners with a story on how he helped the late Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso, chose the right attire to wear.

Mourners converged to celebrate Laboso in a memorial service at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

Joyce became like my sister. Whenever she put on a skirt that was not too low I would tell her - Joyce this skirt is short.

I used to tell her, in our community (Kalenjin) you must present yourself in such a way so that people respect you,” DP Ruto revealed amid laughter from the audience.

Laboso was a close ally to Ruto and after her death, he revealed that in their last conversation, she asked him to ensure the government closely monitored and supported Bomet County.

"She asked me what was going on in Bomet and whether she could go home," Ruto noted.

To answer her questions, Ruto and her husband, Edwin Obonyo, told her to "look after herself and allow the doctors to look after her".

During the service, AU envoy Raila Odinga's wife, Ida Odinga, also disclosed that the governor's ability to lead was seen when she was still in school, which is why she cajoled Joyce into joining politics.

Ida narrated that her journey with Joyce, however, did not end after high school (Kenya High), where Ida was her teacher.

"The day after burying Lorna Laboso, her sister, who died in an accident, I was in the Laboso's home at 6:00 am, and the aim of that meeting was to convince Joyce to take over the seat of Lorna Laboso," Ida further noted.

Laboso's children also penned out emotional tributes praising her for being an amazing mother.

One of her sons recounted the last conversation that he and the late governor had, noting that she had told him how much she would miss the whole family.

"I will cherish the last conversation we had, where you told me that you loved me and you're going to miss all of us," he remarked.
