Jubilee MPs Fight, Event Turns Chaotic

Police swooped in on the chaotic crowd, arresting a number of them after Jubilee Members of Parliament, allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President, William Ruto, confronted each other angrily on Friday.

Women leaders, who are part of the Inua Mama faction and are staunch supporters of DP Ruto, were hosted by Nyeri Woman Representative, Rahab Mukami, in Nyeri Town Constituency.

The meeting turned chaotic when a section of the women leaders started quarrelling with some youth, who had stormed to disrupt the event.

According to The Standard, Mukami stated that she supported both Uhuru and Ruto, whereas the youth shouted back that they supported only Uhuru.

The women were angered by the youth group’s response and threatened to take action against them. The crowd then scattered in panic as police arrested several people.

Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, later arrived at the venue with some of his supporters, leading to an angry confrontation between him and the Ruto-allied women.

We will not allow anyone to intimidate women, we do not have to ask for permission to hold a meeting in this constituency,” Kandara MP, Alice Wahome, lashed out while pointing fingers at Ngunjiri, alleging that he authored the mayhem.

Police officers led by Nyeri OCPD, Paul Kuria, tried to intervene but Wambugu refused to leave. This forced Maragua MP, Mary Waithira, to stand on the podium, vowing not to leave.

“So some police officers in Nyeri want us to believe it’s okay to shout ‘Ruto’ in an event but when someone shouts ‘Uhuru’, you get arrested? Ngunjiri wondered.

Following the chaos, Nyeri Woman Rep, Mukami, then cancelled the meeting.

Other leaders present were county MPs, Wangui Ngirich, (Kirinyaga) Jane Chebaibai (Elgeyo Marakwet) Gladys Boss-Shollei (Uasin Gishu) Beatrice Nkatha (Tharaka Nithi), Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi), Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta) and Faith Gitau (Nyandarua).
