Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, wrote to Kisumu County Commander, Job Boronjo, inquiring why Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo was released, and no further action was taken against him, after he allegedly assaulted a blogger in June 2019.
Citizen Digital reported that the lawmaker was interrogated by Kisumu Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers over the incident.
According to The Standard, Haji also requested for the file with details of the incident.
The Office of the Ombudsman also weighed into the incident and slapped the officers with a 21-day deadline to explain why the matter was assumed.
In one of the letters dated August 9, 2019, the Commission on Administration of Justice wants the OCS to highlight steps the police have taken over the assault claim.
The police, however, denied receiving the two letters from the two organisations.
The MP was caught on camera assaulting Morris Otieno for allegedly defaming him.
In a 41-second video that made rounds on social media, the MP was seen walking towards Otieno who was seated with his friends. The MP then threw fists at him.
Otieno is said to have posted the MP's summons by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) on his Facebook page.
Morris had posted that EACC officers summoned the legislator to their Kisumu offices to provide information about an ongoing probe on the management of Gem CDF.
