On Sunday, September 1,  pedestrians along Ngong Road in Nairobi, stumbled upon a box full of counterfeit currency in what is becoming a familiar occurrence in Kilimani.

The fake currency which was in US dollars and euros was found dumped near Coptic Hospital, by passers-by who alerted the police in Kilimani.

It was established that $640, 000 (Ksh64 million) in fake currency was ready for distribution to the market while $2.4 million (Ksh240 million) was in different stages of processing, The Standard reported.

In July 2019, DCI detectives arrested three suspects, two who are in their teens, following a tip-off from the public.

The detectives seized fake Ksh1 billion US dollars at Fedha Estate, Embakasi in Nairobi.

One month later, Ex-Webuye West parliamentary aspirant, Peter Sitati, was nabbed by police in Eldoret with over Ksh100 million in euros and US dollars.

The money was reportedly seized in a house that is said to belong to Sitati, in Elgon View Estate.

The officers raided the home after a woman filed a complaint claiming the politician had defrauded her of Ksh 600,000.
