Mbita Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo went into a rant on how churches and Religious leaders had failed Kenyans by not stamping authority over politicians gracing their occasions after Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro was arrested for an altercation with Nominated MP, Maina Kamanda.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday morning, September 10, the outspoken legislator criticised the saga.
"The church should not lament. It has encouraged this kind of behaviour from politicians and it is up to it to put the house back in order. Politicians do not force themselves to speak.
"It is not a matter of life and death to be acknowledged as an MP if you are present at a function. Indeed, the events were regrettable and especially it being in a church," Millie reacted.
Former Nyeri Woman Representative, Priscilla Nyokabi, had also urged politicians to act diligently while in public.
"A bit of decorum on how we carry ourselves in the church is what is required and once you have a platform to debate then you can do exactly that. We will increasingly need political tolerance going forward," Nyokabi had earlier stated on live TV.
The Sunday, September 8, was criticised by Bishop James Maria Wainaina of Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu Constituency where the incident occurred.
He went on to cancel all events in the church where politicians have been invited.
“I am hurting over what happened,” said the prelate while demanding an apology from politicians over the incident.
Protests erupted in Murang'a Town on the night of Monday, September 9, after Nyoro was arrested.
Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, camped at Kamukunji Police Station after the arrest of the MP until he secured release.
Nyoro linked his recent woes to his refusal to support ODM leader, Raila Odinga.
