Ndindi Nyoro: From Hawker to Ruto's Key Ally

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro's arrest on Monday, September 9, over an altercation with Nominated MP Maina Kamanda put him further on the political spotlight after he made headlines for various controversial reasons.

His political career has spun from being a little-known first-time MP to a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

His ardent support for Ruto has made him rub shoulders with high and mighty, and at one time sent President Uhuru Kenyatta's sister, Kristina Pratt, to beg the Head of State to visit his constituency.

Nyoro grew up from being a hawker and cobbler in Murang'a to an outspoken politician.

The legislator was born in December 1985, according to The Standard. His love for stock trading and communication saw him join Kenyatta University, where he studied and graduated with a bachelors in Economics.

At KU, Nyoro went on to become a student leader and authored a motivational book titled 'How to succeed in High School'.

The trader owns three business companies aligned to his training, Afrisec Telecoms, Investax Capital and Telesec.

Nyoro sprung into the limelight with verbal attacks on ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2017 while defending DP Ruto's presidential ambitions. No charges were pressed against him at that time.

"I cannot commit political suicide as the Member of Parliament for Kiharu. There's no way you'll call me and order me to sell Raila in Murang'a by force yet we all know that it can never happen," the legislator announced on Monday, September 9, after police started trailing him for the altercation with Kamanda.

In 2017, he flexed his muscles into the political arena when he ran for Kiharu Constituency Parliamentary Seat after the then MP Irungu Kang'ata chose not to defend his seat. He won the seat, which was also previously held by veteran Kenneth Matiba

In March 2019, Nyoro was the brainchild of a controversial bill, Anti-corruption and Economics Crime Amendment Bill 2019, which proposed stringent measures including execution for individuals convicted of corruption in Kenya.

In July 2019, he accused the government of allegedly staging a plot to assassinate him over his support for DP Ruto.
