Raila Adopts Strategy He's Never Used to Beat Mariga

As campaigns for the Kibra by-election heat up, ODM leader Raila Odinga is leaving nothing to chance against the Jubilee rival McDonald Mariga.

The ODM party is reportedly using a door-to-door campaign strategy as opposed to rallies to garner votes and ward off competition from their opponents.

Speaking to the Nation, ODM Director of Elections and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed stated that they had abandoned the rallies for a more personalised method of convincing voters to support their candidate, Imran Okoth.

“This time we are going from door to door. We have left rallies to Owalo (ANC candidate) and Mudavadi,” Junet explained that they were seeking to reach more voters.

The party cancelled a rally that was to be held at the DC's grounds cancelled.

“On Saturday, we are going to all the SDA Churches in Kibra to talk to the people on the need for peaceful campaigns and elections, which has always been the hallmark of ODM’s philosophy,” Junet added.

Tactics that will be used by ODM include appealing for the Kikuyu vote in the by-election and the door-to-door strategy would guarantee a landslide victory.

Various leaders including Edwin Sifuna (ODM Secretary-General), George Aladwa (Makadara) and Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands) have been deployed to ensure the party wins the seat

“Just last week, Mr Odinga and his wife, Mama Ida, hosted the ODM leadership from Nairobi County that I led to discuss the campaigns to ensure that the party retains the seat,” Mr Aladwa, who is also the ODM Nairobi Chairman was quoted by the Nation.

On the other hand, Mariga took his campaign to the next level by meeting his potential constituents.

He toured the constituency conducting door to door campaigns to drum up support for himself in the highly contested mini polls.
