John Wambua the husband of Mariam Kighenda, the mother who died after her car tumbled off a ferry and into the Indian Ocean on Sunday, September 29, has disclosed details of his last communication with his wife.
Speaking to reporters from Daily Nation, he stated that his wife had come from the family farm in Msambweni, Kwale County.
“My wife had gone to get vegetables as she does on weekends.
"She called when she drove to the ferry and I knew she would be home soon,” Wambua recalled amid tears.
Upon learning of the unfortunate news on Social Media, he tried to contact his wife but his attempts bore no fruit.
“I immediately attempted to call her to no avail. “I’m broken. Where do I start?” he spoke before breaking down.
The family decried that the process of retrieving the bodies of Mariam and her four-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu, was wanting.
“Nothing is going on. No one seems to care about my sister and niece. There was no one to save her life and nobody wants to help retrieve the bodies.
“The family has not received a word from the navy [nor has] Kenya Ferry Services even taken the decision to pay local divers to look for the bodies of Kighenda and her daughter.
“The ferries are operating normally as we remain here as bystanders,” the victim's sister protested.
