Imminent Threat Triggers DCI Kinoti to Hold 6-hour Emergency Meeting

On Tuesday, October 8, the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua and other senior police officers held a meeting at Jogoo House.

The six-hour crisis meeting was held following the rise in the number of security officers involved in crime.

People Daily reported that Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai ordered the immediate transfer of all National Police Service officers who have served in Nairobi for more than three years.

"So many officers have overstayed in their current stations. The challenge is that the law only provides for minimum, and not the maximum number of years an officer can overstay in a station," a senior police told the publication.

During the meeting, a few decisions were made including; all officers will have to wear their uniforms while on duty and would have to return firearms issued to them once their duty ends.

Senior officers were also directed to report to stations frequently.

Crimes by police officers have been on the rise. On Saturday, October 5, Police officers responding to a Ksh6 million robbery at a hotel in Eastleigh area, Nairobi were surprised to find colleagues carrying out the crime.

Six officers had reportedly robbed two businessmen who raised the alarm that caught the attention of law enforcers near BARWQO Lodge, 8th Street 2nd Av. Eastleigh.

On Sunday, October 6, residents of Kayole, Nairobi were left counting losses after police officers went on the rampage at several of the local bars.

The rogue policemen then grabbed drinks from the counters and smashed them on the walls, stealing several bottles in the process.

Reports further claimed that the officers were protesting the arrest of three of their colleagues, who had been linked to a daring Ksh6 million robbery at a hotel in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
