Lupita and Mother Scoop International Award

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's wife Dorothy Nyong'o and her daughter, Oscar award winner Lupita Nyong'o were on Monday, October 14 feted for an international award.

In a Facebook post by Kisumu Governor Nyong'o, the two were recognised by Harlem School of the Arts and are set to receive the  Visionary Lineage Award in the ceremony set for October 21.

According to the proud husband and father of the honourees, the event recognised extraordinary black women who lead by example as advocates for the importance of arts education through their inspiring accomplishments.

The news was shared by Essence.com, a renowned American Black Women’s online lifestyle guide.

The awardees were selected on the basis of their leadership and exemplary accomplishments in their fields as well as their commitment to service in the community.

"They have all carved new pathways, and shown their mastery through their perseverance and determination. Today, they stand like beacons, inspiring a new generation to transcend obstacles and limitations," stated the publication.

The elated Nyong'o welcomed the double blessing with open arms as he celebrated his 'power women'.

"On behalf of the people of Kisumu, Let me congratulates the honourees for flying high the County's and Country's flags at international platforms and keeping hope alive among many aspiring young artists and philanthropists," he celebrated.

This comes shortly after Kenyan marathoner Eliud Kipchoge's world breaking record that earned him a nomination for a top athletics award days.

Kipchoge was nominated among ten male athletes in the running for the IAAF Male Athlete of the Year Award. He will be looking to retain the title he won in 2018.
