Uhuru's Forum Taken Over by Gamblers [VIDEO]

On January 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta launched a website bearing his name, that he planned to use to interact with his supporters in the run-up to the General Election.

But since then, www.uhuru.co.ke has been taken over by a group of betting 'experts' who redirected to the domain to www.fineonlinecasino.com.

Before that, a clever businessman had noticed that the domain had not been renewed and paid for it in 2016.

They then left a message that communicated that for the president to regain control of the address, he had to part with Ksh1.1 million.

A look into the website in October 2019, one is treated to the gaming and gambling laws in Kenya including the taxes imposed by the government.

According to IT expert Brian Muuo, who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, the president may have failed to keep up with payments for the web hosting of his site and therefore he lost all rights to it.

"Welcome to Uhuru.co.ke where we will be able to hold meaningful discussions about the pillars of our campaign; Umoja, Uchumi na Uwazi," the caption read on the video of Uhuru announcing the official launch of the website in 2013.

The video was shared on his official YouTube page, UhuruKenyattaTV which was also a platform to interact with the masses.

In the video, President Kenyatta, shared his plan for the country; unity, economy and transparency.

"Our campaign is about unity; the economy and transparency. Umoja. Uchumi. Uwazi. That's because we truly believe that a focus on these three areas is what Kenya needs to move towards a prosperous future.

"We believe that diversity in this country is one of our biggest strengths.

"We believe in creating an environment where our diversity can lead to a dynamic and vibrant society that is fueled by a constant exchange of different ideas," Uhuru narrated.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has also found himself in the same predicament as President Kenyatta. However, for the Senate majority leader's case, the owner of the domain did not ask for payment.

A link posted on his Twitter account takes you to a website whose home page contains a message that reads, "I have tried to contact the rightful owner of this domain with little success. If you have his direct contacts, kindly assist me reunite him with his asset otherwise I will let it expire. Note: Not for Sale!"
