Day Mama Ngina Was Blocked by Security at Uhuru's Gate

Kenya's former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was at one time blocked from seeing her son - Uhuru - when she visited him at Renta Apartments in Nairobi's Lavington Estate.

A report by The Standard indicated that the guard, one Adan Kassim Olow, didn't know who she was when she came knocking one evening in 1986.

As such, he refused to open the gate and told Mama Ngina that he had not been informed about her visit.

However, the guard went to Uhuru's apartment to inform him that he had a guest at the gate.

Upon noticing that it was mother, he hurried down and opened the gate for her.

After Mama Ngina left Uhuru summoned Adan and told him to let her in whenever she visits.

He also wrote down the names of his uncle George Muhoho and cousin Ngengi Muigai and informed the guard that he should never keep them waiting at the gate whenever they come.

“Never keep these three waiting at the gate. But as for the young boys, I will be dealing with them personally," Uhuru averred.

It later dawned on him that Mama Ngina was the former First Lady.
