Moses Kuria Prepares Mt Kenya Residents for Tough Times Ahead

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Friday, November 1, advised farmers from milk-producing regions in the country to brace for tough times.

Kuria took to Facebook to alert the farmers from, especially the Mt Kenya region that the government-owned Kenya Co-operative Creameries (KCC) had slashed the buying price for milk, a claim that was yet to be confirmed when Kenyans.co.ke reached the milk processor.

The firebrand MP claimed that the price of buying milk from farmers had dropped from Ksh35 per litre to a mere Ksh20 for the same quantity.

He blamed the governors of the affected counties for ignoring his advice on making their counties self-sufficient in terms of manufacturing and value addition.

"To all the governors from the milk-producing counties. I have been preaching that the primary objective of our counties should be manufacturing, Job creation and value addition. Now New KCC has dropped the producer price from Ksh35 to Ksh20," Kuria wrote on Facebook.

He went on to predict the sight of governors whining in public despite having squandered the opportunity to build their own milk processing plants.

"You will start crying like babies while you had the opportunity and the money to become your own KCC. You would simply have bought the milk at a price that is acceptable to farmers," he added.

On the same note, the legislator praised the Murang'a county governor Mwangi Wa-Iria for his foresight in the creation of the Murang'a Creameries to cushion his residents from exploitation.

"I understand that you are still buying at Ksh35 except for the 10,000 litres that are still committed to KCC under contractual obligations," Kuria noted.

He then turned his attention to the farmers from Murang'a advising them to ditch the national dairy processor and supply their milk to the Murang'a creameries which was offering better prices.

"And to the Muranga farmers. There is no moral obligation to obey unjust laws. Ignore the KCC contracts and deliver to Muranga Creameries at Ksh 35,

"No one will die twice," he concluded.

By the time of going to press, a representative from the New KCC headquarters whom we had talked to, had not called Kenyans.co.ke back.
