Akothee's Mother Lands Govt Job

Endeared musician Esther Akoth alias Akothee took to social media to celebrate her mother after she had landed a government job.

On Thursday, November 7, the Sweet Love hitmaker posted a video that showed her mother, Monica Yunita Owino Kokeyo, being sworn in as the vice-chairperson of Awendo Municipal board.

"I was born in power by a powerful woman. That is a video of my mum being sworn in as vice-chairperson of the Awendo Municipal Board. Hongera mama. (Congratulations mum)," Akothee bragged while lauding her mother.

In the video, Akothee's mother vows to never reveal the nature of the content of any document, business, proceedings of the municipality committed to her secrecy, unless required by the law.

Awendo Municipality Council is under the County Government of Migori, headed by Governor Okoth Obado.

Municipal boards in Kenya are tasked with coming up with projects that will create jobs, improve the lives of urban residents, and bring about improved productivity in the municipalities.

In June 2019, a report by the Daily Nation indicated that counties had started receiving cash for the establishment of municipal boards.

The cash is part of the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP), a grant by the World Bank.

According to Martin Tairo, the assistant secretary for the Caucus for Municipality Boards officials, various counties were at different stages of establishing municipalities.

“About 35 have already set up municipal boards and their operations are running. In some counties, the process has been delayed due to politics,” he stated.

Away from music, Akothee is a successful businesswoman with her most popular venture being Akothee Safari's, a Tours and Travel Agency.
