CS Macharia Fires Shots at Ruto in Coded Language

Transport Cabinet Secretary, James Macharia, led his counterparts in thinly veiled onslaughts against Deputy President William Ruto, during a church service in Murang'a County on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

The event was to be attended to by President Uhuru Kenyatta who cancelled and sent Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his compatriots, Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Transport).

According to a report by Daily Nation, the CSs, however, attacked Ruto in a coded language, painting a picture of a divided Cabinet out to isolate the DP.

Macharia indirectly poked holes at Ruto's development tours in Central Kenya, stating that Kenyatta would visit the region to launch projects to “prevent some people from launching the same in churches and elsewhere”.

"The handshake is a miracle. The beauty of the handshake is that we have been able to focus on development," Mucheru stated.

"The president will visit the region to launch the dualling of the Kenol-Sagana-Marua road. The development we have must be sustained through good leadership," Macharia stated.

"The president is focused on development and service delivery only and as the Bible teaches us that there is time for everything; it’s now time to work. Let’s support, pray for and work with the president to serve this country," Matiang'i affirmed while referring to Kenyatta's request to legislators to desist early campaigns ahead of 2022.

On September 3, 2019, CSs were ordered to toe the line and support the Building Bridges Initiative. Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Joseph Kinyua, listed support for BBI as a key performance area that would be evaluated.

However, Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri took a different stand when he defied the direct order to the Cabinet, raising speculations that his job may be on the line.

Kiunjuri on Thursday, October 24, 2019, was spotted alongside Jubilee Nominated Senator, Isaac Mwaura, who called for a press conference in Nairobi leading a brigade of Mt Kenya region's leaders in blasting the Building Bridges Initiative.
