Kenyans Caution Bill Gates' Wife After Meeting Uhuru

On, November 12, Melinda Gates of the philanthropic organization Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was in the country for the ICPD25 conference in Nairobi.

After meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Melinda lauded the Universal Health Coverage programme, terming it a potential factor in ensuring a majority of citizens get access to quality health care services.

However, her photo with President Kenyatta has been a subject of discussion, in which Kenyans hilariously warned her on not lend a penny to Kenyatta.

“Hey kindly avoid money talks please,” advised a DJ called Benny.

“Please Don't Give Him Any Money! Thanks,” posted Eric on Twitter.

"Please don't give out any money!" Just see how many times that has been stressed here below,” reminded another user.

Owen Habel wrote, “If you're planning to give him any kind of funding, don't say that we didn't warn you. You're on your own.”

“Mom, I believe you have worked hard for your foundation's resources.  Please, if you want or agreed to lend Kenya any money, please hold it till this corrupt government is gone. Otherwise, it would be better to come hold a big party for everyone than to lend us anything,” cautioned Gait Rush.

Kenyans’ reactions continued to depict a picture of angry citizens overburdened by the national debt that has now crossed Ksh 5 trillion.

On November 6, the Senate raised the country's debt ceiling to Ksh9 trillion, a move that gave leeway for the government to continue borrowing more loans.

According to Treasury estimates, Kenya’s debt will rise to Ksh.6.3 trillion by mid next year, something that may have advised the Senate’s decision.
