Uhuru's Adopted Son Who Stunned the Nation

President Uhuru Kenyatta's children are famous and well known, having graced the spotlight for a number of reasons.

Ngina Kenyatta followed in the footsteps of her mother, picking up the leadership mantle as seen through her job as director at The Kenyatta Trust.

Muhoho Kenyatta took a different turn and followed his dreams into being a fashion designer. However, Kenyatta's adopted son, Daniel Owira of the Otonglo Time fame, only stole the spotlight once, on the day he met the president in 2013.

Kenyans.co.ke traced Owira at Multimedia University where he joined after scoring a C+ in KCSE in 2015 while at Highway Secondary, Nairobi, and the comedian still had his wit and humour as he engaged us on his current life and future plans.

Owira won the heart of Kenyatta, after presenting an oral narrative titled Otonglo Time during the 2013 annual Kenya Schools, Colleges and Universities Drama Festivals winners gala at State House, Mombasa.

"I am in my fourth year, pursuing a degree in Journalism and Media Studies; Film and Animation and I love it," Owira stated.

Despite his seemingly unserious nature, Owira revealed that he had ventured into business after joining campus, to mint some money and learn more on entrepreneurship.

"I am a businessman. Right now I sell construction material and foodstuffs too," Owira disclosed.

The fame and spotlight did not change his personality, as he insists on being humble and outgoing. However, he does not meet the first family as often as people think, citing the busy nature and schedule of the Kenyattas.

"I would like to thank the Kenyatta Trust, the program I am in. It has helped me to cope with life in general: how to be a celebrity and maintain it and how to cope with society. It has been a life of fun as I have made a lot of friends.

"I don't hang out with the first family. I rarely see them as we are all quite engaged. I meet them once in a while when we go for student camps through the beneficiaries program. However, I have visited State House a few times," Owira lauded the Kenyatta's.

It was after his exemplary performance in 2013 that Owira's life took a turn for the better as Kenyatta offered to take care of him owing to the deplorable life he was leading with his family.

“You are now one of my sons. Make sure you give me your report form every end of the term,” President Kenyatta said when he took in Owira.

In 2015, reports alleged that his mother, Rose Awino Owira, had been locked up in the hospital over an accrued bill amounting to Ksh120,000 that State House reportedly cleared

"She is in Kisumu and is holding up well," Owira stated adding that he revered her.

He made a cameo appearance on Citizen TV's Inspector Mwala and also bagged gigs with top supermarkets and a telecommunication company in Kenya after breaking into the limelight.

His current photos show a transformed Owira, having grown into a fully-fledged man, indicating that he has been enjoying a high life.
