Sabina Chege's Declaration at Uhuru's Event Backfires

Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege's comments during the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative Report at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Wednesday, November 27, backfired after Kandara MP Alice Wahome disagreed with her.

Ms Chege of Team Embrace, a faction group of women allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, stated that the women leaders had decided to end the division between them.

After Team Embrace was formed, another group of women leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto emerged under the name Inua Mama. The two splinter groups seemed to rival each other.

"As of today, as women leaders in this country, we are killing the different women groups; Team Embrace and Inua Mama. Following the BBI report, women leaders in Kenya will be united," Ms Chege affirmed.

In her speech, she also called for the inclusion of more women in the Executive.

However, the chairperson of Inua Mama, Alice Wahome, took to social media to contradict Ms Chege.

Ms Wahome stated that Inua Mama was about changing the lives of women.

"So far so good. We are doing well (referring to the Bomas meeting). Point of correction and clarification: Inua mama is all about empowering women socially and economically.

"Not a tool for political advancements and therefore can’t be merged with other groups with different agenda other than that. However, ideas on how we can reach out to more women in mashinani are most welcome," the Kandara MP posted on Facebook.

She further mentioned that her team would carry on with the events that had been planned.

"This Friday, November 29, we head to Wajir County," Wahome added.

During the Bomas meeting, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen was booed by the audience after he brought the event to a standstill.
