How Uhuru's CS Helped Lilian Muli Kickstart Her Career

Citizen TV news anchor Lilian Muli kickstarted her career at the age of 24 when she joined Kenya Television Network (KTN) in 2005.

The celebrated news anchor did not have it easy as she tried a number of screen tests before she finally got her breakthrough.

In a post on social media in 2017, the news anchor narrated that Lands CS Faridah Karoney not only believed in her, but also entrusted her with the opportunity to compete among the best in the industry at the time.

"I was given an opportunity to stand with media giants and report and anchor the news with them at KTN, my first employer.

"The one person who believed in me was the Lands CS who was then the managing editor at KTN. Everyone else said I was too young or too this and that, " she wrote.

Muli stated that she had always wanted to pursue a career in journalism, citing that she would look at herself on the mirror and pretend to be reading the news.

"I wanted so bad to be a journalist, I saw a newspaper advertisement and sent a video demo to Farida Karoney. To be honest I didn’t think anyone would watch it but she did.

"I was called for a screen test when I was only 19; I was pre-selected together with others but I didn’t make the final three," she added.

The two would later meet at KTN, where Ms Muli did her internship and where she was later promoted to become a news anchor.

Lilian went to Loreto Convent, Msongari before attaining her degree in communication at Daystar University.
