Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi Released

Controversial blogger, Cyprian Nyakundi, was released from police custody on Tuesday, January 21.

Taking to social media, the blogger went on to reveal that was he released on a free bond after Ombeta argued that the sting operation was a set up orchestrated by one of the Akasha brothers.

"I was finally released on a free bond yesterday after my lawyer protested the sting operation that was led by one of Akasha's brother's son, aimed at planting money and media on the scene in order the set me up," Nyakundi posted on twitter.

He further debunked claims by the Standard that he was released after agreeing to an out of court settlement, going on to allege that the media house had been compromised.

"Let me confirm that I have not made any deal for out of court settlement as reported by standard, don’t believe the media says. Everything the DCI and media are reporting is controlled by NurdinTinta Akasha, the lead investigator in the sting operation," he shared on his twitter page.

"Yesterday, Tinta Akasha went to Westgate and demanded for CCTV footage but they refused to give him," he added.

Nyakundi had been arrested on Monday, January 20, for allegedly extorting Ksh17.5 million from business executives.

According to the statement shared by the DCI on January 20, the blogger alongside another suspect identified as Emmanuel Nyamweya Ong'era allegedly received Ksh1 Million from the victims, the executives of Victoria Bank, in what was reported to be a downpayment of Ksh17.5 million when they were arrested.

The detectives disclosed that the blogger had published a story about Victoria Bank in October last year claiming that it had been involved in fraudulent dealings and money laundering.

His lawyer confirmed the release by posting "He is out on police bond," on twitter, and further revealed that police had tried to frustrate him in his efforts to have Nyakundi released.

"They still have him in custody at Gigiri. They are still trying to spin it. Demanded that he be released on police bond or he be released to me to present him in court,if and when required," he shared earlier on Wednesday, January 22.
