Thirdway Party Alliance Dr Ekuru Aukot has edged his name in the Kenyan political sphere, from being part of the committee that drafted the promulgated constitution, running for the presidency in 2017 he championed the popular Punguza Mizigo Initiative which won people's hearts but was rejected by the political class.
In an interview with Parents in October 2014, Aukot who hails from Turkana County spared some time to speak on his wife and family, which he has managed to keep away from the glaring eyes of the public.
Aukot, who hails from a family of 27 siblings, met his wife, Lorna Wanjiru Mathenge, sometime in 2004, in what he dubbed a "nomadic gesture" out of his pastoral background.
"My wife comes from Nyeri County. I met her at a friend’s office and was drawn by her beauty. We became good friends and sometime in 2004, I asked her out on a date to a Swahili night event at Nairobi’s Carnivore restaurant,” Aukot stated adding that Wanjiru, however, turned him down.
The wife would later call him the following day arguing that the plans she had made were cancelled and was available to hang out.
“The rest is now history,” Aukot recalled.
The two have enjoyed a long-lasting companionship which he explains their amazing friendship.
"It is actually a lifetime ministry where both parties commit to serve and support each other. One has to think deeply about building a strong bond and understanding the purpose of marriage rather than getting caught up in the hype of a wedding," he disclosed.
The two have two daughters, Naro Njeri Aukot and Alakara Muthoni Aukot.
"My wife and I deliberately gave them a Turkana and Kikuyu name so that they will forever treasure their heritage and their true “Tukuyu” tribe; that is a combination of Turkana and Kikuyu," he explained.
In 2017, before the presidential debate in which only he and AU envoy Raila Odinga graced (President Uhuru Kenyatta snubbed), Aukot was backed by his wife, whom he heaped praise on.
"My wife and I worked towards establishing a new community, Tukuyu's, for we do not believe in tribalism in this country," Aukot lauded.
"I am so glad to be by his side and we thank God for everything," Wanjiru added.
Wanjiru is a housewife and spends most of her time raising the children according to our sources.
