A police officer in Gucha South, Kisii County, shot himself dead moments after arriving at his workplace on Tuesday, February 25.
According to a report by K24 TV, Rodgers Arusei, who was attached to Nyamarambe Police Station shot himself in the chest during the incident that occurred at 8 a.m.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene disclosed that they did not what caused the sudden turn of events because the officer “hadn’t exhibited any signs of depression”.
Arusei’s body was taken to a Kisii hospital mortuary.
Elsewhere, a primary school in Kakamega County is reeling in shock after a body was found inside a classroom in a suspected case of suicide.
According to a report by The Standard, Brain Land Academy headteacher Jacob Bushuru disclosed that he noticed Jacob Wera Bunuka's body when he reported to work on Tuesday, February 24, at 6.00 a.m.
He narrated that he did not find the guard at the gate as usual and thought he had gone home, only to find him hanging inside one of the classrooms.
“I reported to the school at 6.00 a.m. and didn’t find the security guard at the gate and thought he had already gone home.
"But while doing patrols around the classes, I was shocked when I saw his (security guard) lifeless body hanging from the rooftop,” narrated Bushuru.
Confirming the incident, Kakamega County Police Commander Bernard Muli disclosed that investigations into the matter had been launched and that his suicide motive could not be established because no note was found.
“Police have launched investigations into the matter to establish why the security guard took his own life,” stated Muli.
The school is located at Shilongo area, Manda within Kakamega North Sub-county.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Webuye County Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
In January 2019, a teacher committed suicide in Bondo, Siaya County over Jubilee government's primary school laptops project.
Elkana Owino Omondi, a teacher at Migiro Primary school, had a disagreement with the school's management over two school laptops that went missing.
The father of ten took his own life after reportedly being frustrated by the school administration over the laptops.
The Area Deputy County Commissioner Samson Akach indicated that the deceased left behind a suicide note which detailed his frustrations.
