Members of the public interrupted a consultative Building Bridges Initiatives (BBI) meeting that was held at the ACK St. Peters Hall in Nyeri on Wednesday, February 26.

The meeting was convened by leaders from the county led by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu among several other leaders with the intent to collect views of Kenyans for the report.

"Members of the public interrupted the meeting demanding copies of the BBI report," Kenyans.co.ke learnt from a source who was present at the meeting.

However speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Wambugu indeed confirmed that the meeting was interrupted by residents, but did not disclose the reason for the disruption.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who was also at the meeting downplayed the disruptions, arguing that Nyeri residents were a people that loved to express themselves.

"They argued that they did not know whether what the leaders tell them is in the report is true or false. Therefore, they disrupted the forum demanding for copies so that they can interpret it for themselves," she added.

The meeting was stalled for over 30 minutes with youths demanding to read the report, arguing that President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed that Kenyans read and comprehend the report, prior to national conversations.

The meeting was convened in line with the BBI taskforce's call for inclusivity, primarily achieved by the report addressing issues affecting every Kenyan from around the country.

Nyeri County government through a statement revealed that the report had achieved tremendous support for the BBI report.

Governor Kahiga stated that BBI was a good initiative, arguing that it promoted national unity and cohesion. In addition, he stated that the initiative would improve economic devolution, with increase resources allocated to the counties jumping from 15% to 35%.
