The national government through the ministry of sports, culture, and heritage, on Tuesday, March 10, announced a total ban of all international sports-related trips.
"Following the global outbreak of the COVID - 19 virus, the government has put in place measures to deal with the situation to safeguard the public and the country at large,
"In this regard, the Ministry wishes to inform you that there will be no more travel for international events until further notice and notably for the next one (1) month," a statement signed by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Joe Okedo, reads in part.
The latest directive implies that Harambee Stars will not travel to Moroni for their Arica Cup of Nations qualifier 2nd leg fixture against Comoros.
"Additionally, note that the earlier communication by the Cabinet Secretary for Health on local events of international nature applies," the statement further reads.
The global coronavirus epidemic has also forced Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa to request the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone their Afcon qualifier ties against Comoros.
Mwendwa, on Tuesday, confirmed that the federation had written to CAF seeking postponement of the matches in the wake of the spread of the deadly Corona Virus (COVID -19) around the world.
Kenya was set to host Comoros on March 25, in Nairobi before the return leg in Stade Omnisports de Malouzini, Moroni four days later.
“Based on the directive issued by the Ministry of Health, we have requested CAF to postpone our match against Comoros,” the FKF President stated.
The prestigious Barthés Rugby Trophy which was set to be held from April 19 to 26 in Nairobi has also been cancelled.
"With a view to the current development of the coronavirus and related health concerns, Rugby Africa has announced to postpone the U20 Barthés Trophy until further notice," a statement shared by Rugby Africa reads in part.
