MP's Mother Dies After Long Illness

  • Mandera East Member of Parliament Omar Mohamed (Sala), on Tuesday, March 31, lost his mother.

    According to a statement shared by Garissa Township MP and National Assembly majority leader, Aden Duale, the legislator's mother, Tamima Abdi Omar, passed after a long illness.

    "We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Following the death of our mother, Mama Tamima Abdi Omar, mother of Hon Omar Sala, MP Mandera East who was ailing for some time.

    "My brother and your family members May Allah give you patience and elevate his station among those who are guided," read Duale's condolence message in part.

    Omar was elected the Mandera East MP in the August 31, 2017, polls under the Economic Freedom Party.

    The legislator has been on the forefront of educating his constituents on the Covid-19 outbreak in Kenya.

    "As a constituency and indeed a country, we must dedicate all our efforts to save ourselves from this contagion. 

    "Regardless of our political persuasions, our political differences, everybody must play their role in safeguarding themselves and our people, but also mitigate the impact of this virus on the lives of our people," Oman wrote on his Facebook page.

    The death of his mother came a week after Garissa County Woman Representative Anab Subow Gure lost her father on Thursday, March 26.

    Mzee Subow Gure passed away following a short illness.

    Udgoon Siyad - a vocal politician, was among several leaders who condoled with the legislator.

    "The only thing that softens human hearts is death. It's a reminder that this world isn’t our home. My condolences to my sister Hon Anab Subow Gure and her family for the loss of their father," she posted on Twitter.
