A gang of thieves masquerading as officers from the multiagency Covid-19 response team has been flagged for targetting unsuspecting Kenyans and subsequently robbing them.

In the wake of these scams, Kenyans have been exercising extra scrutiny when called or visited by people claiming to be part of the multi-agency response team.

A report published by the Standard on Tuesday, April 7, provided that Kenyans approached by these individuals should contact corona operations centre as per an advisory from Charles Owino, the Police Spokesperson.

Owino directed Kenyans to relay their suspicions through the centre's numbers on 0110939676, 0110939684, 011093981, 011939688 or alternatively to reach out through the agencies Social media handles @kingakorona on both Facebook and Twitter.

“We understand there are those incidents where some people are taking advantage of the situation to harass innocent Kenyans. We urge for cooperation,” noted Owino.

The gang that has been flagged by the police is still on the loose and had already invaded and attacked a number of homes under the same guise.

These invasions were reported in Runda, Ruaka and Lavington and were linked to the group.

One man who had nearly fallen victim to the ruse asked Kenyans to exercise caution in the face of unverified claims from strangers.

"They claimed that they had followed the signal of a lady named Carole who had left quarantine and she had Covid-19. Luckily, our guard had talked to someone else in the compound who told him not to let them in and I said the same. They were not wearing any uniform and had no ID. Be careful everyone," he warned.
