A wedding party in Eastlands did not end in celebration as 39 attendees, all women, were arrested and put into mandatory quarantine at their own cost, for breaking the social distancing directive.
According to the police, the 39 women of Somali origin who have all since been put into quarantine were arrested on Sunday evening at Naasra Estate along Spine road in Komarock, Eastlands while enjoying themselves, without observation of the law.
A member of the public tipped off cops that women had congregated at the party with police swinging into action and found the women still having fun jammed up in one house.
Kenyans have been accused of aiding in the spread of Covid-19 with irresponsible behaviour, flouting all laid down laws put in place to help curb the spread of the disease.
Several estates have been marked as defiant due to the fact the most residents ignore the social distancing rules as they continue to party. Embakasi, Ruai, Tigoni tea estates are some of the places that the police is targeting in their swoops.
Health Cabinet Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi on Sunday, April 19th said that any Kenyan found to be ignoring the laid down directives put in place to help combat Covid-19 will be put under mandatory quarantine at their own cost, as they will be deemed to be spreading the disease intentionally.
The laid down procedures put in place by govt include and not limited to washing hands, sanitizing of hands, keeping a social distance, and obeying the dusk to dawn curfew.
Several Kenyans, especially the youth, have been accused of devising ways to party and enjoy themselves during this period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some have liaised with bar owners to have them locked in as they enjoy their favourite drinks, while some have decided to host parties in their houses.
