About 21 young people were arrested by the police after they were found flouting government directives set to curb the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19), as they had attended a gathering and had not observed the social-distancing rule.
The youth aged between 18 and 25 years were also found to be shooting compromising photos along Golf Road, near Nakuru Golf Club, on Wednesday, April 22.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the police took the 21 to the Kenya Medical Training College, Nakuru to be quarantined for 14 days as per government regulations.
A report by The Standard, on Wednesday, April 22, further detailed that Nakuru Town West Deputy County Commissioner Elmi Shaffi confirmed the incident, adding that of the 21, 13 were female and 8 were male.
“The youth were depicting nakedness, indecency and immoral behaviour that are against the culture of Kenyans. They will be held at the quarantine for 14 days,” said Shaffi.
The suspects were found with half-naked attire and photos were taken in compromising postures.
The commissioner further detailed that the youth did not have face masks, which piles more woes to their case as government gazetted a Ksh 20,000 fine for those without face masks in public or a 6-month jail term.
“Officers from public health will monitor Covid-19 symptoms during the quarantine period and anyone found defying regulation will be charged,” Shaffi declared.
An in-depth report further detailed that the youth had been shooting photos around the area for over two weeks, while vividly flouting Covid-19 rules.
On of the teens was also found to have jetted into the country from Germany, as the police also established that the group communicated via WhatsApp, where the recruited new members. The group had 79 members at the time of the arrest.
"Investigations has been launched to know the intention of the youth group, especially the female who jetted from Germany if found guilty, she will be charged with taking pornography," Shaffi stated.
One of the administrators of the WhatsApp group lamented that the fee levied to individuals in quarantine would be hard to meet.
"The group has three administrators that send links to various social media platforms to recruit youth who have talents. I would ask for leniency because I do not have money, neither are my parents aware that I have to be placed in quarantine," he pleaded.
