Alphan Japani's troubles did not ease after leaving quarantine as he found his house in Muthurwa swept clean by thieves.

Japani was part of the group that threatened to commit suicide at the Kenyatta University quarantine facility on Monday, April 27.

Following an uproar after the video went viral on social media, the group was allowed to leave the quarantine facility but Japani was welcomed by an empty home.

Japani recounted his steps after leaving Kenyatta University till he got home to find that he had been robbed of everything.

"I didn't even have fare, I was forced to walk on foot to town. I got help from my friend and came home.

When I got home it was empty, I don't know where to start, my friends will give me clothes and a place to sleep because I have nothing," said Japani.

The 23-year-old noted that he was taken to quarantine after neighbours suspected him of having Coronavirus.

"I just had chest problems. I'm asthmatic and I didn't feel well in my chest, so the neighbours called. Here if you have a slight flu people call and you are taken in, even if you cough everybody is taken in," said the man.

Japani revealed why Samuel Osore threatened to jump while in quarantine, "He owed them Ksh 67,000 and they restrained him from leaving so he went to the top of the building and decided to end his life because he didn't even have a job."

Japani has to quickly find his footing as he is the breadwinner and significantly supports his family which resides in Mombasa.

Osore, who had threatened to end his own life as he was being held at the facility over unpaid bills despite testing negative for Covid-19 was arrested after his release.

He, alongside others, was given a letter by administrators allowing him to leave the facility after the protests that caught the public's eye.

In a video he shared on Wednesday, April 28, Osore claims that the letter was bogus, accusing administrators of colluding with police as they were arrested soon after they left and taken to Mbagathi Hospital.
