Well-wishers have been exposed for using journalists to appease their followers and gain popularity, then take back donations made towards the fight against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in Tharaka Nithi County.
On Monday, May 19, Tharaka Nithi's Health County Executive Committee Member (CEC) Gichuyia Nthuraku raised the concerns while addressing journalists.
"Those who have joined hands with us in this war, even if you have assisted us in one way or another, it would be better if you assist us with a clean heart. Do not hold onto pride.
"Someone should not issue donations and then take them back after the media walk away," Nthuraku lamented.
The CEC further put the donors in the spotlight for hatching more crafty ways of packaging donations in false pretence.
"We also found out that the donors secretly package something that is of less importance from what they have labelled in boxes sent as donations
"We shall spoil our own names and yours too. It takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice to make a name, yet all that can be drained in seconds," Nthuraku warned.
As more counties are being put under scrutiny for corruption and embezzlement of Covid-19 funds and donations, the CEC urged the scheming well-wishers to shelve their plans to aid the county.
"If you do not have the giving spirit, kindly restrain yourself donating.
"I pray that we should not put our selfish desires in front of the needs of our people," the county administrator pleaded.
