Murang'a County Women Representative Sabina Chege, sent out a message to President Uhuru Kenyatta, asking him to replace National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.

In a video that surfaced on Sunday, June 7, the vocal legislator said that it was time for the position to be handed out to a more loyal member of Jubilee Party.

Sabina who claims to be having no scores to settle with Duale, sais that, "I have nothing personal or a grudge against the Majority Leader, he has done a good job but its good to test somebody else.

"He has served for many years. As the position was not confirmed, let's have the President give us a different Majority Leader," she state.

She then expressed her gratitude to the President for cracking his whip on errant members of the ruling party.

"The president did what he was meant to do. We had gotten to a point where we became indisciplined ourselves and we became untidy.

"We started uttering some words that showed disrespect. I have myself to blame and my colleagues. We went to far and the president has been kind to us." she confessed.

Duale was spared in the purge targeting Deputy President William Ruto’s allies from plum parliamentary offices. Earlier on, indications were that he would be replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya as majority leader.

Kimunya has instead been appointed to serve as the secretary of the Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group, State House spokeswoman Kanze Dena said.

The Garissa Township MP has served for more than seven years as the Majority Leader and helped secure House approval for government Bills and motions despite a hostile opposition - particularly during Jubilee’s first term in office.

“Today's Parliamentary Group meeting endorsed Hon Justin B Muturi to continue serving as the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Moses Cheboi to continue serving as the Deputy Speaker, Hon Adan Duale to continue serving as the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, and Hon Jimmy Angwenyi to continue serving as the Deputy Majority Leader,” read part of the statement sent out by  State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu on Tuesday, May 26, had also called for Duale's impeachment, citing that the Majority Leader's remarks suggesting that the President was looking to betray his Handshake partner, Raila Odinga, was enough to warrant a dismissal.

“The majority leader suggested that the president is lying and is planning to betray Raila at an opportune time.

“That by itself is reason enough to lose the seat as the majority leader,” Wambugu asserted.

Speaking on the 2022 succession race in April 2020, Duale maintained that the Head of State would back DP Ruto, and leave Raila out in the cold.

“You think you have fixed William Ruto, you will be shocked. ‘Baba’ (Raila) will be shocked. There is that secret card between Uhuru and Ruto,” he claimed.

On June 4, North Eastern leaders led by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji called for a press briefing to thank President Uhuru for retaining Duale as the National Assembly Majority Leader.

"We want to assure you (President Uhuru) that we have always been loyal and we will continue to be loyal. We will obey and fulfil any instruction given by the party.

"We have a saying that when you lose your road during the dark, you can re-trace it at day time. If for any reason there is a feeling that we have gone wrong, we did not intend to do so but our intention is to work with you through thick and thin.

"We will not allow Duale to let you down. We pledge our loyalty to you," Haji vowed.
