The Nation Media Group axe has fallen on news anchors Ken Mijungu, Debarl Inea and Harith Salim who were fired on July 3, 2020.
Multiple sources with knowledge about the reorganisation at NMG intimated that the 8 journalists were handed termination letters.
Mijungu also announced on Twitter that his time at NTV had come to an end.Former NTV Anchor Ken Mijungu (left) interviewing DP William Ruto at his Karen home on Thursday, January 23, 2020.File
“The axe fell at NTV’s newsroom and I was on its way. 7 years in those corridors summed up in a two-page letter of termination.
“We live to fight another day. Thanks to God, He remains the greatest, thank you NTV for the opportunity and thank you for always staying tuned,” he posted.
Ken Mijungu presented the 9 pm bulletin, AMLive, as well as Side Bar show in which he hosted politician.
In his career, he was fortunate enough to host the country’s top leaders among them Deputy President William Ruto.
Debarl was popular for hosting the AMLive show while Harith Salim was a Swahili news anchor.
Many more are likely to be sacked as the station had announced on July 1. On Wednesday, July 2, NMG fired Business Daily Managing Editor Ng’ang’a Mbugua and Daily Nation News Editor Francis Wanyonyi Wambilianga.
Many journalists who have parted ways with their employers have launched solo careers by taking advantage of the rise in digital technology.
Former Citizen TV investigative reporter Asha Mwilu launched her own company called Debunk Media, while Betty Kyallo launched a YouTube platform as did Jalang'o who exited Radio Milele.
Aside from being a journalist, Mijungu is the founder of Execar-tive Carhire, a private company that leases vehicles for events and executive transfers.
The enterprise, imports vehicles from Japan, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Dubai and the United Kingdom.
Some of the services include; airport to hotel executive transfer, city tours, long and short time motor vehicle leasing services, wedding cars, close protection, conference transfers, VIP & VVIP services and aircraft charter services.Former NTV News Anchor Ken Mijungu
