A section of Jubilee Party Members of Parliament are facing the risk of losing their seats after Secretary-General Raphael Tuju warned them for defaulting their monthly Ksh 20,000 subscriptions.

This comes amid the purge targetting Deputy President William Ruto's allies. Jubilee has narrowed down on defaulters and the first casualties are within the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Jubilee has five MPs in EALA. Ex-MPs in Kenya, Simon Mbugua (Kamukunji), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), Wanjiku Muhia (former Nyandarua Woman Rep), Noor Mohammed Adan and Florence Jematiah. Only Mpuru Aburi was reported to have submitted his subscription.

"This is a formal notification to you as an MP in EALA that you have defaulted in the remittance of your monthly subscriptions. According to our records, you have defaulted to remit your party subscriptions amounting to Ksh 620,000 as at July 2020. Take notice that you have breached the Jubilee Constitution and this attracts a penalty including but not limited to suspension or revocation of your nomination," Tuju warned.

Four out of the five Jubilee EALA MPs who defaulted payment for close to 31 months were issued a seven-day deadline to respond to Tuju's notice.

On Friday, June 19, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe had also warned Ruto's allies against defaulting on monthly contributions which are meant for running activities at the Jubilee's headquarters along Thika Road Nairobi.

This was after the DP and his allies opened new offices dubbed Jubilee Asili Centre citing frustrations by Jubilee Party administrators at Thika Road. Ruto allies alleged that they were blocked from accessing the party's headquarter offices.

The purge by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on its MPs also took a new twist, with the party offering to reinstate them. ODM axed seven MPs from National Assembly Committees in May 2020. The seven were against party policies and were also allied to DP William Ruto.

"As NASA, we are not vindictive. A majority of them have reached out to us, but we haven't made the decision yet. If it is established that their reasons merit, then we shall definitely look into that. However, their reasons must be compelling so that it doesn't make the whole thing look like a political joke," Mbadi stated in an interview with Daily Nation

Among the MPs who were kicked out and were to face the disciplinary committee were Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, Tindi Mwale (Butere), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Nakara Lodepe (Turkana Central), and Bungoma Woman Rep, Catherine Wambilianga.
