Two police officers are nursing injuries after trying to resue a miraa driver from an angry mob at Nyangati area on the Mwea-Embu highway in Kirinyaga County on Monday, July 13 after a road accident.
The melee ensued after a speeding Miraa vehicle, a Toyota Probox model hit a pedestrian killing him on the spot.
Following the accident, a mob comprised mainly of boda boda riders, attacked the driver baying for his blood as police officers swung into action to save the man.

"Haendi, ua yeye! (he is not leaving, kill him!)," the riders chanted as apunched and whipped the driver, with several blows ad kics landing on the officers.
The deceased was a 35-year-old man identified as Samuel Kathigo who was on his way to Ngurubani area to purchase, eyewitnesses say.
The miraa driver was rushed to the Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital after nursing injuries inflicted upon him by the angry boda boda riders.
The body of the late Kathigo was transferred to the Kibugi Funeral Home in Kutus where a post-mortem is set to be conducted.
On Wednesday, July 8, a boda boda operator was reported to have lost his life in Defathers, Kirinyaga along the busy Embu-Nairobi highway in what was alleged to be another Miraa vehicle accident.
Eyewitness claimed that the man was hit from his back, thrust out of the motorbike and landed on his head on the tarmack.
The accident attracted a huge crowd with irate residents threatening to burn the miraa vehicle.
Police officers managed to take control of the situation as the vehicle as towed to a nearby police station with its urgent cargo still onboard.
