Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei on Friday, July 17 gave away Ksh10 million worth of motorcycles.

The event was held at Naiberi Trading Center where she distributed the motorcycles to selected boda boda saccos.

“The distribution of 100 motorbikes to boda boda saccos is to empower the youth as we aim to encourage self employment to the young generation.

“Goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals is on decent work and economic growth. With such empowerment we shall achieve these goals to make our country better economically,” she stated.

The funds to purchase the boda bodas were sourced through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund

The woman rep stated that she would strike a deal with the National Transport and Safety Authority to facilitate the registration so that the motor cycles could be operationalised as soon as possible.

She also took a tour of the town riding in one as the rest followed her in a huge convoy.

The boda boda operators praised Shollei for the initiative and asked her to continue supporting the youth in other ways.

Speaking to the media after the event, she commented on the ongoing wrangles within the Jubilee Party

“If you remember Jubilee was formed just before the last election. What is important for us is to continue listening to people on the ground and if we think it's untenable to leave Jubilee, we will. For now were are not leaving, at least not without a fight,” she spoke.

The previous week, she had distributed 108 water storage tanks of 5,000 litres to selected dispensaries, public primary schools, secondary schools and special schools.

She explained that it was necessary for schools to have sufficient water in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
