The Wiper party on Tuesday, July 21, moved to formally expel former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama from the party.

In a statement to newsrooms, the party's secretary-general nominated Senator Judith Sijeny stated that the National Executive Council had resolved to expel the politician from the party following the conclusion of the disciplinary process.

"NEC also adopts the Report of the WDM-K Disciplinary Committee that recommended the expulsion of the former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

"The Party shall move with speed to write to the Registrar of Political Parties to have Muthama's name struck off from the Party register," Sijeny noted.

The party had censured Muthama over alleged insubordination of the party leader giving him 14 days to explain his actions or risk being found guilty of dissension, warranting a ruling that could see him kicked out of the party.

Days after the notice, the former senator announced his official departure from the party declaring that his support in the 2022 presidential race had shifted from Kalonzo Musyoka to Deputy President William Ruto.

"What business do I still have in wiper? I have no business to be in Wiper. I will ensure William Ruto becomes the 5th president of Kenya. And for the record, I am not being expelled from Wiper, I vomited wiper in 2017, excuse me.

"I am working round the clock to team up with Ruto to ensure that he is elected. We can only meet with Ruto to discuss serious issues," he stated.

In the virtual meeting, the council further resolved to forge forward with the agreement with the Jubilee Party in line with the emerging political realignments in the country.

The move was attributed to the realisation that the National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition had become dysfunctional.

"A Special National Delegates Conference will be convened as soon as possible to ratify the NEC resolution concerning the envisaged Coalition," the party stated.

Wiper had earlier signed a post-election agreement with Jubilee that would see the parties work together in the run-up to the 2022 General Election.

"This is a cooperation between Jubilee and Wiper. We shall cooperate fully in terms of enhancing Jubilee programmes in Parliament," Kalonzo stated.
