On August 30, former KTN reporter Carol Nderi was feted with a first runners-up prize in the global Toastmaster World Championship of Public Speaking.

The eloquent Nderi who currently serves as the Director Of Communications and Press at the County Government of Nyeri, was pipped to the top prize by fellow Kenyan Carolyne Gathuru.

Kenya's shining stars trumped contestants from across the world to take the top two positions.

Toastmaster Club, which oversees the global competition, shared a video congratulating the two Kenyan women for their phenomenal achievement.

Gathuru boasts of over 15 years experience as a strategy consultant, corporate training and public speaking coaching.

In 2013, she founded LifeSkills Consulting Ltd which she uses to deliver winning culture change, brand and marketing, customer experience, communications and service delivery programmes.

The Kenyatta University alumnus was commended by Toastmasters Club President Richard E. Peck for her phenomenal achievement.

Speaking during a special webinar dubbed Toastmasters International Virtual Convention 2020, Peck was full of praise for the remarkable Kenyan women.

The World Championship of Public Speaking starts in Toastmasters clubs across the globe. From there, participants advance to Area, Division, District, and region-level competitions.

Two winners from each region-level competition move on to the semifinals. At the semifinals, an expert panel of experienced Toastmasters determine the eight finalists. Each speech lasts between five to seven minutes.

For many amateur speakers, this competition is viewed as an opportunity of a lifetime.

Past winners such as Ramona J. Smith and Aaron Beverly have used this accolade to become prominent paid speakers, delivering keynotes and speeches around the globe.
