Chaos ensued at a burial service in Migori County as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga met area Governor Okoth Obado on Friday, October 9.

This was the first time the two leaders were meeting after ODM initiated an impeachment motion against Obado. The governor was accused of graft and aligning himself with Deputy President William Ruto.

The duo was attending the ceremony of the late father of Awendo MP Walter Owino. Reports allege that members of Governor Obado's security detail were barred from accessing the podium.

This forced his supporters to clash with the security detail of Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko. Ayacko and Obado are arch-rivals with the former pushing for the ouster of the latter.

Police quelled the tension by separating the rivalling factions. Obado, later on, declined to comment on the issue nor his impeachment case but declared undying support for Odinga and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"Baba, what has been peddled to you against me is utter falsehood and rumors meant to create a rift.

"My support for the BBI and your presidential bid has been unwavering. We are all seeking to go to Canaan,” Obado stated.

Odinga, Ayacko and ODM Chairman John Mbadi, who is rallying MCAs to oust Obado also played cagey with the developments.

The former Prime Minister stated that he would unite Obado and Ayacko and solve the Migori stalemate as the BBI was out to enhance unity and cohesion.

Obado's impeachment motion has failed to take off four times, with the County Assembly postponing the debate.

The County Speaker Boaz Okoth accused ODM of orchestrating violence to push him to oust Obado.

A female MCA's arm was broken in a scuffle that ensued when the MCAs convened on Wednesday morning, September 23. Seven MCAs and the Speaker were arrested and later released on cash bail after recording statement with the police.
