Deputy President William Ruto allies have vowed to storm the Mashujaa Day celebrations to be held on Tuesday, October 20, at Gusii Stadium, Kisii County.
Speaking during a boda boda fundraiser in Nyamira County on Thursday, October 15, Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro disclosed their plans.
Nyoro claimed that guests invited to the event were associates of what he referred to as "dynasties".
The MP further called on supporters of the DP, whom he described as the real heroes of the nation, to come out in large numbers and storm the venue.
“Without a card bearing your name and where you are from, you will not access the stadium. If your father was not a senior chief, minister or vice-president, there will be no entry. But we are telling you we will enter, because this is our country and we are all heroes,” said Nyoro.
The Kiharu MP further accused the organizers of the ceremony of sidelining the DP's allies and their supporters.
However, authorities in Kisii dismissed Nyoro’s claims, saying guests will be limited because of Covid-19 restrictions.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Monday, October 12, announced that the celebrations will be an invite-only affair.
The PS said that about 3,000 to 3,500 people will sit inside the stadium while 8,500 more will watch the event from giant screens that will be strategically mounted around Kisii Town.
The tension between DP and his boss continues to escalate even as pressure mounts from foreign diplomats and the clergy for the two leaders to tone down their political rhetoric.
On Thursday, October 16, the DP led his allies in castigating top government officials trying to stop his political rallies when he presided over a fundraiser for a bodaboda cooperative societies at Sironga Grounds in West Mugirango Constituency and another for 10 churches at Miriri in Kitutu Masaba Constituency.
The MP had planned to host Ruto in Murang'a over the weekend by the events were postponed to allow the DP to attend a Cabinet retreat.
