Renowned media personality Jacque Maribe on Thursday, November 19, shared details of events leading to an exclusive interview with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2014.
In an interview with True Love, Maribe disclosed that the president had contacted her for the interview when she was just about to go on maternity leave.
"I haven't seen you in a while so I hear good things are coming. Come and do an interview before you go," the president told her on phone.
Maribe would share the good news with her bosses at Citizen TV, only for them to express doubts that she was fit to conduct the interview.
"When I went to tell my boss that I had been offered the first-ever interview by the president, it was hard. Like why you? And I remember being told that someone else would conduct the interview," she stated.
"I got angry and I was like why, 'is it because I'm a woman, or is it because I’m heavy and so you (the bosses) think I’m not up to the task, why?' It actually brought a bit of tension," she continued.
Maribe would contact the Head of State and inform him that someone else would be tasked with conducting the interview, a decision that she hasn't so pleased with.
"If you are not going to do it, then, there will be no interview," the President told Maribe on phone.
"What that did for me was it helped me get the maiden interview. I was so heavy at that point but I was glad that someone recognised strong, abled women in a world full of sharks," she added.
Left with no option, the bosses were forced to send both Maribe and her colleague at the time, Hussein Mohammed, for the interview.
In the interview, the president gave Maribe a tour of State House, showing her places where the country's important decisions were made.
Since then, Maribe has done a couple of interviews with the head of state.
