Central Organization of Trade Unions, (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli opened up on President Uhuru Kenyatta's likely candidate for presidency come 2022.

Atwoli stated that Uhuru is likely to hand over the baton to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, and not to his Deputy President William Ruto.

The COTU boss maintained that if push comes to shove, Uhuru would most likely throw his support behind Gideon to keep off Ruto from ascending to power.

"He (Uhuru) cannot vacate power without knowing who will take care of the country, he cannot surrender power to Ruto.

"In the whole group he can only trust Gideon, he can compromise and have Gideon in power. Ruto supporters are confused about where they are going," explained Atwoli.

The Secretary-General noted that Uhuru has a simple task of convincing the Mount Kenya region not to back Ruto in the coming elections.

Atwoli claimed that the President could use the tactic of reminding people from his region how Ruto at some point opposed the former Head of State Daniel Moi.

He also added that there were question marks about Paul Gicheru, a lawyer indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) surrendering in Hague.

Atwoli was speaking at a gathering in an undisclosed location with the attendees of the meeting also claiming that Ruto will not succeed in his bid for the Presidency.

Atwoli has previously endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the State House job after Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe threw his support for the ODM Party Leader.

"I am endorsing Murathe's proposal for Raila Odinga being a candidate in 2022 because he is the only man who brings Kenya together, and he has supporters, suicidal supporters.

"I know by 10 a.m. in the morning he will have won the seat as the president with the support of Central and other places," said Atwoli.
