Tragedy has struck a family living on the outskirts of Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County after a fire broke out killing three children aged 3, 4 and 7 years respectively.

Reports indicate that the children had gone to Eldoret to visit their father during the weekend when the unfortunate incident happened on Monday night, November 30.

Only remnants of what was once their beautiful house remained.

The father, who felt aggrieved, reminisced on the unfortunate events that led to the demise of his three children.

"I was running some errands elsewhere when a relative rushed and notified me that my house was engulfed in flames.

Upon reaching the scene, I found nearby residents who had rallied to put out the fire and try to rescue my three children but it was all in vain. Now I am left with nothing. I don't know what to do, " the father spoke to a local media house.

Another resident felt aggrieved for the father noting that the residents had been subjected to hard times especially due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

They appealed to the government to cater for the children's burial.

Over the years, many Kenyans have been left counting heavy losses and in some cases the loss of their loved ones due to fire tragedy.

Recently, markets such as Gikomba have been prone to many fire tragedies over the past number of years which has seen the traders lose lives and properties.

These situations have made Kenyans question the disaster preparedness of the country as recent fire tragedies have been met with heavy losses with the victims of the tragedies urging the government to take action.

The government, in response, promised to ensure more effective measures towards disaster preparedness in a bid to ensure Kenyans are better equipped to respond to certain disasters.
