47 families have been forced to live in the cold after their houses were torched and property destroyed by an irate mob in late November and early December 2020.
The mob was reportedly revenging the murder of an 18-year-old boy, Kevin Mutenyo who passed away on November 10 in Navakholo Kakamega County
The arsonists were said to be tracking a village elder, his sons and a Nyumba Kumi official who were linked to the death of the teenager.
Residents accused the police from Shiongo Police Station of siding and protecting the suspects.
They alleged that the officers are familiar with the mob who mostly are boda boda operators.
One local stated that he fled with his family and had been sleeping in a sugarcane plantation over death threats.
The father of the deceased alleged that the son was stabbed with a knife multiple times in the stomach and chest.
The boy was murdered while reportedly fighting for a 16-year-old girl in the village.
He added that they were denied access to his postmortem. The deceased was buried on Saturday, November 21.
As of November 25, the mob had already burnt down 15 houses in the village, Navakholo. 32 others have been others in under two weeks.
Kakamega County Police Commander Hassan Barua assured that the police had launched a manhunt for the suspects.
However, residents argued that they were not convinced by the officer's assurances as no arrests had yet been made.
